Bridgend girl gains highest religious studies mark

A STUDENT at Archbishop McGrath Catholic comprehensive school in Bridgend has gained a top honour in the 2009 A-level examinations.

Sophie Chan scored the highest mark in all British and overseas entries for the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) examination in A-level religious studies in 2009.

She was presented with her award and £50 prize at the school by Tudor Thomas, WJEC principal manager and religious studies subject officer. During the presentation Mr Thomas paid tribute to the hard work and commitment from Sophie that made such an achievement possible.

Accepting the award, Sophie said how much she enjoyed the course and that the award was the best possible reward. She thanked everyone at Arch bishop McGrath Catholic school who helped her to achieve this success.

Dr Philip Manghan, her religious studies teacher and acting headteacher, said: “Sophie has always played a very important part in the life of the school. We congratulate her.”
