of world
wide prayer
for Unity
THE world-wide Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity— placed this year under Our Lady's patronage—begins on Monday, Feast of St. Peter's Chair at Rome, with Mass celebrated by the Holy Father in his private chapel.
Catholics in every country—with tens of thousands of non-Catholics— will he saying the Prayer for Christian Unity every day of the Octave, which ends on January 25, Feast of the Conversion of St, Paul.
The daily intentions are:
Jan 18: Feast of St. Peter's Chair at Rome. Unity of all Christians and the peace of the world.
Jan. 19: Separated Eastern Christians,, Jan. ja20 : Separated English Christians.
Jan. 21: Separated Christians in Europe.
Jan. 22: Separated Christians in America.
Jan. 23: The return of Lapsed Catholics.
Jan. 24: Jews and Mohammedans.
Jan. 25: Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. The conversion of the heat hen.
Cardinal Griffin has issued the following message: "In Our Lady's Year, when the Holy Father has given as one of the intentions the Unity of the Church. we must all redouble our prayers during the Octave of Prayer for Christian t pity.
"By prayer and sacrifice each member of the faithful may work for the fulfilment of Our Lord's instruction: One fold and one Shepherd.'
"Here in our own country let us pray that Our Lady's Year may hasten the time when England becomes once more the Dowry of Our Lady."
Archhisl'op Godfrey says in a message to the Octave secretary:
"I hope and pray that the Octave may be widely known and I cordially bless your endeavour.
"I am glad that you are seeking the support in the archdiocese of Liverpool and I hope that many of my flock will he with you in beseeching Almighty God to lead all men to the light of the truth, and to the knowledge of the Church of Christ."

On the occasion of the Octave and intercession for the Jews on January 24, a Mass in the Byzantine rite will be celebrated and the Epistle and Gospel read in Hebrew on Saturday at 10.30 a.m. at the Marian House Chapel, Holden Avenue, in North London.
