Transport charges

SEVERAL local education authorities have announced that they will drop any idea of charges for school transport completely. The LEAs involved are MidGlamorgan, Devon, Dorset, Avon, Cornwall, Lincolnshire, Newcastle, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside, Sheffield and Manchester,

Sonic LEAs including Salop, Ilampshire and Cumbria will only charge for the first two children in any one family. But Oxfordshire will charge for transport to denominational schools as from September 1981.

The limitation of charges to two children is of at least partial relief to parents of large families.
