Twice a year at Spode House — the Dominican Conference Centre in Staffordshire — a week-end retreat takes place which should be more widely known. These week-ends set out to re al batteries
all ages with a mixture of serious discussion, lighthearted entertainment and spiritual renewal.
The weekends are conducted by Fr. Columba Ryan, 0.P., Chaplain to Strathclyde University, and among the lecturers have been Michael Robbins (actor — "On the Buses," etc.), John Ryan (Catholic Herald cartoonist), Erik Pearse (Secretary, International Justice and Peace Commission), Fr. Paul Byrne, 0.M.I., (Director, Shelter Housing Aid Centres,) Professor Francis O'Grady (St. Bartholomew's Hospital) and Richard Owen (management consultant).
The next lecturer will be Sister Maureen Farrell, F.C.J., a member of the scientific research staff of Manchester University, whose topic will be the implication of scientific discoveries for Christian beliefs.
