The exhibition Divine Kingship in Africa at the Museum of Mankind, Burlington Gardens, London Wl, has been extended for a final period until October 14. In it the Witish Museum's whole collection of Benin art is on view.
Vatican objections to national pastoral councils have again come to light in a circular letter from the Congregation for the Clergy sent to the world's bishops. It said that participants in a 1972 Vatican meeting on pastoral councils believed that "it is not opportune, at least for the present, to institute pastoral councils" above the diocesan level.
Archbishop Athenagoras, spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox Church in Britain, said last week that the World Council of Churches had lost its spiritual orientation and was becoming too involved with politics. "The views of the sociologists have swallowed the pursuits of the shepherds," he said in a sermon in Birmingham.
