A Radio 4 "Friday Call" programme on Censorship was opened with this question from Mr. Steve Stevens, secretary of the Nationwide Festival of Light, whose general article on this subject we published last week. — "In view of the steeply rising violent crime figures just released by the Home Office, which Mr. Mark Carlisle indicates could in part be because of screen violence, is not the case for firmer application or cen sorship very necessary, especial ly at a time when writers and producers are breaking all bounds in ultra violent and sexploitation films and do not seem able to discipline themselves to exercise quality control?"
Apart from Mr. Alexander Walker and one or two others, the general discussion indicated that the Participants in the "Call-in" programme were con cerned about the current situation and felt that censorship was very necessary, especially in esatecting adolescents.
