Fr. James Ryan

We regret to announce the death of 'Fr. James Ryan, S.J., at Blackpool.

Fr. Ryan was born in Liverpool on July 26, 1893, and was educated at the Jesuit College of St. Francis Xavier. In his eighteenth year he applied for admission into the Society of Jesus and was received at Manresa House, Roehampton, on September 7, 1911.

After going through the usual studies in rhetoric and philosophy (1913-1918) he taught at the Catholic College, Preston, till 1923, when he was sent to St, Beuno's College, Rhyl, for his theology. He was ordained there on July 31, 1926, finished his theology at the recently established Heythrop College, Oxon, and underwent his third year of probation at St. Beuno's in 1928.

As a priest he worked diligently and steadfastly in the Sacred Heart parish, Leeds. A sudden attack of angina cut short his promising career while having a needed rest at Blackpool.
