Pope John Keeps Up a Custom POPE JOHN XXIII, carrying on A' the tradition of the late Pope Pius XII, appeared at his window high above St. Peter's Square on Sunday and for the first time blessed the thousands of Italians and foreign tourists gathered below.
On Sunday morning the Holy Father went down into the Crypt below St. Peter's and prayed at the tomb of Pope Pius XII who died a month ago that day.
Later he received Don Juan of Bourbon, Pretender to the Spanish throne, in a 15 minute private audience.
Archbishop Godfrey of Westminster was received in audience by the Holy Father on Saturday morning.
