THE MARRIAGE of Miss Pamela McDonald to Mr Ian Sharrock — Emmerdale Farm's Jackie Merrick — in the Catholic Cathedral in Leeds will take place next week as planned, despite warnings from police that it would have to be called off.
Police told the couple that the wedding would clash with the Lord Mayor's Show and that they would be unable to cope with security arrangements for both events.
Thousands of fans were expected to turn out to cheer the bride and groom outside St Anne's Cathedral on June 22 and Pamela was determined not to disappoint them. She told police: "Cancel the Lord Mayor's Show instead."
When the police realised that the bride's mind was made up, they agreed to handle security at both events.
, "The police were absolutely lwonderful," said Pamela. "They could not have been more helpful."
She told the Catholic Herald that her fiancé may have his arm in a sling on their wedding day, after breaking his collar bone last weekend. She said she was hoping that they would both arrive at the altar in one piece.
Fr Michael Powell, parish priest of St Joseph's Church, Brighouse, a close friend of the bride and groom, will conduct the ceremony.
