VOR the first time in 100 years

two parishioners of St. Francis, Chester, have been awarded the papal Bene Merenti Medal. They are John Cavanagh and William McGrath, who between them have served St. Francis for 86 years.

Fr. F. Egbert, O.F.M. Cap., the Franciscan Provincial, presented the awards during evening Mass in St. Francis Church, which was followed by a reception in the church social centre.

Mr. Cavanagh, whose son is a Franciscan novice, has served the parish for 46 years, and Mr. Mc(irath has served the parish for 40 years, but has had to retire recently owing to ill-health.
