CARDINAL PACELLI LUNCHES WITH ROOSEVELT

A Christian Anti-Red Front ?

On Thursday of last week, almost immediately after the elections, the Cardinal Secretary of State (Cardinal Pacelli) lunched at Hyde Park with Mr. Roosevelt.

This meeting has revived rumours to the effect that diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Washington will be resumed by the establishment of a nunciature in Washington.

It is further alleged, even more hazardously, that Cardinal Pacelli's object in creating such a nunciature is to make possible co-operation with the Anglo-Saxon world in establishing an anti-Red Front.

Cardinal Pacelli's meeting with President Roosevelt comes at the end of a flying tour of over ten-thousand miles. He has visited Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Santa FE, and Kansas City.

Pontificating in Saint Paul's Cardinal Pacelli was assisted by three Archbishops and sixteen Bishops.

In San Francisco he blessed the giant new bridge over the Pacific Bay.

All the Catholic Universities of America have conferred honorary degrees upon the distinguished Prelate.
