SIR,—May I be allowed the opportunity of expressing in your columns my grateful thanks to the anonymous donors (many of small sums) who have shown their appreciation and affection for the late Gilbert Chesterton by their generosity.
It is very gratifying to find such regard from all classes of society for his memory; and I wish to take this, the only way, of recording my gratitude to them.
Any sums, however small, are most welcome, though naturally larger donations are necessary if the memorial is to be completed in the near future as is so eagerly desired by his numberless admirers.
CHARLES W. SMITH.
The Presbytery, Beaconsfield, Bucks.
