Spanish Ex-Consul Lectures in Liverpool Senor Ignacio Mugurio, former Consul

General for Spain in Liverpool, lectured last week in the Students' Union under the auspices of the University of Liverpool Catholic Society.

The subject of his lecture was Spain, and he dealt mainly with the historical side of the subject, tracing the development of democracy in that country from its first beginnings early in the nineteenth century to the Republican Government formed in February of this year. Concluding, he said that after the murder of Calvo Sotero, Spain rallied to the support of the glorious movement which eventually would free his country. In answer to a question, he stated that the Church would be established in Spain after the triumph of the Loyalists, for the Catholic Church is definitely the Church of Spain. Referring to the use by General Franco of Moorish troops led by Spanish officers. Senor Muguiro said he could not see why any objection should be taken to their use as they were definitely part of the regular Spanish army.
