Competition for Cathedral Statue Design

Artists from all over the world are invited to submit models to the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Executive Committee for a statue to be set up in the Cathedral entitled Our Lady Queen of the Sea.

When the most suitable model has been selected by the Committee, work will be started to prepare the statue which will rest temporarily in the crypt of the Cathedral.

When the main portion of the Cathedral is completed it will be transferred to a more suitable permanent site.

On the statue will be placed the antique and 'valuable necklace presented by the Holy Father to Mgr. Downey after he had designated the statue to bear the title Queen of the Sea. The necklace is composed of very ancient amethysts and is set in diamonds and linked with brilliants.
