Ia lightning door-to-door campaign, paign, the Catholic People's Parts In Holland has won 209.381 new members:, almost doubling its membership. The total is now 464,857.
This is the party's reply to the decision of the Catholic members of the Labour Party to stay in that party, contrary to the wishes of the Hierarchy.
The Catholic People's Party is now by far the largest in the country: the Labour Party comes second with 125,000 members.
We shall have to wait until next year's General Election to see what the campaign means in increased votes. But of course, the result does show an Increased interest by Catholics In the country's political life.
The campaign figures were announced at a special meeting in Roermond. The chairman of the party, Mr. van Doorn—who himself joined In the door-todoor canvass in Rotterdam— thanking all those who had taken part, asked them for the same support at the next year's election.
