I WOULD like to endorse the excellent article by Ivan Clutterbuck on the subject of religious education in schools, May 25.
Parents are very dissatisfied with the way in which RE is taught and judging by the alarming "fall out" by Catholic school leavers there are some solid grounds for this anxiety.
Mr Clutterbuck says "Classes do not want to be told to work
out their own values, but expect , to be taught with authority." Many pupils are at the stage when they 'know it all', but being immature and inexperienced their conclusions are frequently 'wide of the mark".
I wish that t he quotation could be sent to every Catholic RE teacher in the country. Margaret Hardy Sutton Cold field
