Soviet Attacks Vatican Again

New Times, Moscow paper succeeding to War and The Working Classes, has renewed the Soviet at;ad, on the Vatican.
The writer, Melkinov, says: "Aff through the war, the Vatican consciously and consistently tried to save Fascism from destruction and defeat. It intrigued against the unity of the great Allied Powers. It planned for a socalled compromise peace.
" What are the Vatican's post-war plans 7 Judging by what the Pope and those close to him have stated, it is not hard tb reconstruct the picture of she post-war world which the Vatican heads arc conjuring up. The essence of she Vatican post-war programme is a throwback to the time when Fascist or proFascist reactionary regimes existed in a good many countries. Rejecting the post-war plans adopted by the United Nations, Catholic reaction, led by she Vatican, has plans of its own, aimed at weakening the inundations of future world collaboration among the nations." Melnikov says that the Vatican is taking under its wing the most blatantly reactionary circles of Germany, Poland and Italy.
" Thus the post-war plans of the Vatican are permeated with the spirit of black reaction anci are basically hostile to the vita] interests of the peoples of Europe, to their liberty and to peace among the nations," he concludes.
POLAND AND CATHOLICS Mikhail Mikhailov, broadcasting from Moscow on Saturday, said :
" One would think it was time for the mischief-makers also to realise that the Polish problem was over, but they are trying to prove it has been solved unilaterally. You will remember the efforts the reactionaries made to dissuade their Governments from recognising the Polish Govegment of National Unity. The Hearst 1Press kept up this campaign to the very last, but it got nowhere.
" I listened the other day to a special broadcast from San Francisco, in which Senator O'Konski, the Wisconsin Republican, talked at great length about the Soviet Union's unilateral action, and had the effrontery to compare its policy in Eastern Europe with Hitler's policy of force: it was very strange to hear this kind of talken a U.S. broadcastI should think the Americans who know the Russians and who fought with the Red Army must have been disgusted by this irresponsible statement.
" The script of his talk might have been written in the offices of the Catholic World, which has actually been urging the U.S.A. and Britain to make
war on the Soviet Union. It is not surprising that the bellicose gentlemen in clerical garb find themselves utterly. alone and despised by the nations."
