ORIGINALLY built as a country house in 1765, Etloe House, in Leyton, London ElO, has recently been completely refurbished by Laing Retirement Homes to form part of a sheltered housing scheme for the elderly.
Formerly the home of Cardinal Wiseman, Archbishop of Westminster, the house has for most of this century been a convent and hospital run by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart.
When Laing Homes purchased the house and commenced work on the site,
they uncovered a time capsule buried by the nuns in 1966.
It contained a penny of that year's minting, a rosary. crucifix, report and accounts of the Order for the same year, and two handwritten scrolls of the foundation of the order. and a List of the names of the sisters.
Pictured above is Mr David Holliday, managing director of Laing Homes presenting the . contents of the time capsule to Sr Rosemary of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart at the official opening of the new development.
