THE script of the controversial Passion Play to be performed in Britain and Ireland in Lent is now in the hands of the Lord Chamberlain. Based on the five-hour long Thiersee Passion Play and translated from German, it is being examined for antiSemitic content.
The play will be seen in Manchester from February 28 to March 13, in Dublin from March 17 to March 30 and in Glasgow from April 7 to April 18. Plans for a London production were abandoned after Wembley, Earls Court and Harringay were found to be unavailable.
Jointly sponsored by German and British interests, the play, according to their English spokesman, Mr. John Mulvey of Leicester, contains no antiSemitism and has been written in the light of the Vatican Council's decree which absolved the Jewish race from the guilt of Christ's death.
