Prisoner Became Barrister

Lieut. S. D. Russell, an old boy of St. Michael's Coliege, Leeds, and Ratcliffe College, Leicester. who has died in London at the age of 27, studied and qualified for the Bar while a prisoner-of-war. At the same time he also studied means to escape. Twice he got out, in Germany and Italy, but was recaptured. His father, Mr. Russell Gurney. of Collingharn, Leeds, is Recorder of Rotherham and a former member of the Catcnian Grand Council.
