IT IS MANY years since the rule was relaxed that women should wear a head-covering in church. Is it not time that similar relaxation was made to allow members of the male sex (particularly the elderly, bald and frail) to wear some sort of head-covering during Mass? During the present cold spell I am distressingly aware that more than one of my male friends is either deterred completely from attending Mass or is suffering a sort of endurance test when he does attend. This is no criticism of our parish priest's valiant efforts to heat the church, but it is a large building,
The medics will confirm that the greatest loss of heat to the body on a cold day is through the head.
I mean absolutely no disrespect to the Blessed Sacrament and am all for any alternative sign of respect that could be substituted for hatlessness. Name and address supplied
