Fr. George Dwyer

THE Hierarchy at their Low

Week meeting appointed Fr. George Patrick Dwyer to succeed Bishop Heenan as Superior of the Catholic Missionary Society.

Fr. Dwyer was born at Manchester in 1908 and educated at St. Edmund's School and St. ede's College, Manchester.

He studied for the priesthood at the English College, Rome, where he took his Ph.D. and D.D. at the Gregorian University. He was ordained in 1932.

He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge. where he was a scholar of Christ's College.

From 1937 to 1947 he taught at St. Bede's, Manchester. When Fr. Heenan re-started the work of the Catholic Missionary Soc'ety in 1947, Fr. Dwyer was one of his first helpers.

He has been editor of the Catholic Gazette since then and is well known as a missioner throughout the country.
