ROME.

Giustino de Jacohis is to he beatified in June. The official declaration has not yet been published. but it is being prepared.

Giustino de Jacohis, of Italian birth, was Vicar Apostolic in Abyssinia just a century ago. He wrote a long diary which as yet has not been published but which is in the possession of the Vincentian Fathers in Rome.

In it he describes the missionary's life in Ethiopia a century ago, the persecutions they suffered and the letters in Amhara characters which were written by those missionaries from prison, and which are redolent of the tone and mystical thoughts of the first-century martyrs of the Church.

Blessed Gemma Galgani, the Tuscan peasant girl, beatified in 1933, will be canonised—prolmbly in June.

The Congregation of Rites again examined her cause in the presence of the Holy Father last week, and the Holy Father declared that he would ratify the favourable judgment arrived at by the congregation.
