Twice Mayor of 'bonfire town'

Alderman James Bennett has accepted an invitation from the Lewes, Sussex, Town Council to continue in office as Mayor for a second year.

The "bonfire town's" first Catholic Mayor, he has been a councillor since 1944. He is a Freeman of the City of London.

Alderman and Mrs. Bennett, who live at Mailing Place, Lewes, have seven children.
