Anglican logic

From Mr Alan Whaits SIR – Speculation on a further outflow of Anglican clergy to Rome (Report, July 15) as a result of promotion of women has suggested two propositions.

One: If the Catholic Church is right, then they should be in it already.

Two: If Rome is wrong, then the introduction of Anglican woman “bishops” will not render it right.

Would any of these would-be converts clarify their logic? Once Catholic, their own Anglican “ordination” and those of women should be seen as equally invalid. That assumes of course that they take Catholic doctrine as “table d’hôte” rather than “à la carte”. If the latter, they will swell the ranks of our already rather crowded Trojan horse.

Yours faithfully, ALAN WHAITS Bristol, Somerset
