Magazine says sorry for nude ad

BY DAVID V BARRETT

AN ITALIAN CATHOLIC magazine has apologised to its readers for showing a picture of a nude woman. Famiglia Cristiana found itself in hot water with its readers over an advertisement for a bathroom ventilation system. It showed a female posterior through a misted-over shower door, with the caption “If you want to see clearly, call your electrician.” The magazine’s director, Fr Antonio Sciortino, said the advert “seemed a little bit on the limit, but not enough to cause strong consternation. We count on our readers’maturity.” But in this week’s edition Fr Sciortino apologised to readers, saying that the publication of the picture “unfortunately offended the sensibility of many of our readers, who sent in their protests”.

He said: “No taboo has been broken. We haven’t opened our pages to nudes. Modesty and chastity are very important values for us and we will not let them go.”
