Angelus call on the TOM-TOM

LOCAL witch doctors and skin beaters at Shinyanga in Tanganyika, are taking lessons in drum-beating from a Maryknoll Missioncr.

He is Fr, Charles Callahan, who was given this extra job when his superior discovered he was a former drummer with a drum and fife band.

Fr. Callahan is now official drummer at the mission. He wakes the missionaries and the neighbouring Christians in time for morning Mass, and sounds the Angelus in the evening with a booming roll on large tomtoms made of oil barrels and zebra skins.
