Colonel Francis Gabreski, the top U.S. air ace—a "Battle of Britain" fighter pilot who shot down 33 planes while serving with Polish airmen alongside the R.A.F., and has now destroyed six M.I.G. 15's in Korea—has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for developing tactics adopted by all fighter groups in Korea,
The citation said that Colonel Gabreski "contributed immeasurably to the air superiority" achieved by United Nations air forces over North Korea,
