ATTRACTIVE CATECHISM

Fr. F. H. Drinkwater, who has done so much to shake us out of Catechismal Routine, now offers The Abbreviated Catechism, with Explanations (Burns Oates, 2s. 6d.) in a well-printed brochure with a good stiff cover.

The selection, intended for " secondary " scholars, might well be used for the instruction of adult converts in place of the longer form through which they have to plough —or get " ploughed." "Cradle"' Catholics could certainly use it as a refresher.

The pictures—of unequal value— include good borrowings from the U.S.A. We think that " vows " (192) might have had a monk and a nun instead of three nuns. " Contrition " (287) unintentionally suggests " Miami nights" and we do not think that Otte soy er Immacuhula Concepcion will help the aver

age inquirer. These details might be remedied in a reprinting which should soon be necessary if priests and teachers recognise the most attractive Catechism ever produced

in this country. I. D.
