IN SACRED COLLEGE
The membership of the Saored College has been reduced to 53 by the death last week of Cardinal Lavitrano, Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of Religions.
There are 17 vacancies, and it is being rumoured that the Holy Father will hold a Consistory later this year to create several new Cardinals.
Cardinal Lavitrano, whose death was reported in the later edition of THE CATHOLTC. HERALD last week, was the sole survivor of his family in an earthquake. He was then nine years old.
He was formerly Archbishop of Palermo.
