Three missionaries in mandated New Guinea, Frs. Kirschbaum, Weyer and Bader, were killed last Sunday when their aeroplane crashed at Alexis Haven while taking off.
Alexis Haven is the headquarters of the Catholic missions in the Madang and Sepik districts. Fr. Kirschbaum, a. pioneer missionary, had an international reputation as an anthropologist.
The three missionaries were members of the Society of the Divine Word.
The mission plane, the " St. Paul," was mainly used to transport missionaries to the interior of New Guinea, to the region near Mount Hagan, where Divine Word missionaries are working among StoneAge savages.
