Mr. Reltie Gilani, who was converted to Catholicism while he was in prison with Mr. Nehru, has been appointed an unofficial adviser to the Indian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr. Gilani is the president of the Catholic Action Association of the Delhi-Simla diocese.

He and Mr. Nehru were imprisoned together for their civil disobedience activities. In prison, Mr. Gilani studied the Papal Social Encyclicals and the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas. He concluded that the Catholic Church was the answer to the social ills of the day.

Mr. Nehru encouraged him to expound his views after their release.
