in Sabre crash
Capt. Joseph McConnell, who carried a Sacred Heart badge when he flew the Korean war missions that made him the world's leading jet ace, was killed when a Sabre jet he was testing crashed at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
On the badge given to him by an Air Force chaplain and always carried by him were pictures of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary with the words: "May we find our way to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary for our own salvation and that of all the world."
He leaves a wife and three children, Patricia, Kathleen and Joseph.
