Crown Of Flowers Remains Fresh For Five Months

From Our Own Correspondent.
A crown of golden coloured roses, placed on the statue of Our Lady at St. Mary's Church, Heaton Norris, Stockport, on the first Sunday in May is arousing remarkable interest.
Though five months have passed since the crown was made by a local florist, the roses are still in an extraordinary state of preservation. In spite of the fact that the crown
been on the statue for so long, and during the hot summer months been subjected to the blaze of sunlight from a window facing south, the blooms still retain their symmetry and not a single petal has fallen.
The Rev. Dr. James Turner, senr., the parish priest, told me the crown has not been in any way treated during the months it has been on the statue. Only on one occasion has it been removed. three months ago, when he was amazed to find the flowers so remarkably preserved.
He pointed out that other flowers placed in the Sanctuary during the summer had lasted only for a few days.
The Pope has enjoyed excellent health during his summer vacation at Castel Gandolin, and may remain there until the end of October.
