Cardinal praises Basil Hume biography

CARDINAL Cormac MurphyO’Connor has congratulated the official biographer of his predecessor, Cardinal Basil Hume.
The Archbishop of Westminster told Anthony Howard that his book, Basil Hume: the Monk Cardinal, was an “excellent work”.
Speaking at the launch of the book in Archbishop’s House, London, the Cardinal recalled some of the times he shared with Cardinal Hume, who died in June 1999. He said: “Whatever the challenges and difficulties there were in here during his many years as Archbishop of Westminster he never had any doubt that this is where the Lord wanted him to be and this is where he had to fulfil his vocation as archbishop.” The Cardinal said: “Basil Hume was not only a holy man, he was a fascinating, complex and charming human being.
“There may be another book written about him one day and I don’t know who is going to do it. Anthony Howard has made a quite excellent beginning for which we can all be very truly grateful.”
