Dominicans to close schools

PR. IAN HISLOP, Domini can Provincial, confirmed this week that the Dominican school at Laxton, Northants, will be run down within three years. Meanwhile every effort will be made to find places for its 80 boys at other schools.

The decision, brought about by lack of suitably qualified teachers, has been conveyed to parents.

The impending closure of Laxton, which reached its zenith in the 1930s, under the direction of Fr. Henry St. John, comes less than 12 months after the decision of the Jesuits to close Beaumont.

The recent chapter at which the decision was made, also decided that the Dominican prep school at Wanarth, Monmouthshire, will also have to be run down over the next three years, but negotiations over its ultimate future are not yet complete.
