THE Conference of Major Religious Superiors of England and Wales held its annual meeting at Swanwick recently. Taking the theme of "Formation For Mission — The Responsibility of Provincial Superiors", delegates decided that formation of priests and monks is more than a matter of spiritual development.

CARDINAL Hume will be the guest of the Leeds Diocesan Commission for Christian Unity when he addresses a conference entitled "Commitment to Unity — What Does it Mean for Catholics?" on March 4. The meeting will be held at the Great Hall of the University of Bradford. For tickets and other details phone Mgr Steele on 0274 721430 FR Christopher Marsden, chaplain at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, was beaten unconscious by two youths he disturbed trying to steal his car outside his church of St Mary's Harhorne, Birmingham. He was attacked a second time by girls accompanying the youths.
