Anglicans offer church for Mass
BY A STAFF REPORTER
THE Anglican church of St. Andrew's. Weston-superMare, has been made available to the Catholic parish of Corpus Christi for saying Mass. This arrangement was made after Catholics lost their Mass Centre in the Bourneville district.
The community centre on the Bourneville Estate had been rented by Corpus Christi for 15 years, as a Mass Centre for Catholics living nearby. The Centre is to be demolished, however, and Canon W. J. Ryan, parish priest of Corpus Christi, had been looking for suitable alternative accommodation for his congregation.
In the course of an ecumenical meeting of clergy, Canon Ryan and the Rev. Mark Ellis, vicar of St. Andrew's, Bournevile, agreed that it might be possible to use St. Andrew's for the Sunday Mass. This was put to the St. Andrew's Parish Council, who agreed and to the Catholic parishioners, who were happy to accept the offer. Permission was sought from the Bishop of Bath and Wells and from the Bishop of Clifton.
This was given for a trial period of six months. As from this Sunday the Church of England parish communion at St. Andrew's will be held at 9 a.m., and the Family Service Ott 11.15 a.m. The Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 10.15 a.m.
