R.A.F. Benevolent '"Fund

The Archbishop of Westminster has issued the following appeal on behalf of the Royal Air. Force

Benevolent Fund: " The appeal which is being made again this 'year on September 16 by the Royal Air Fume Benevolent Fund serves to remind us of the debt we still owe to the brave men who not only staved off the invasion of this cottntry, but searched out the enemy in his native lair to inflict on him a resounding defeat.

"These gallant operations were not carried through without much loss of life among those who took part in them. Those airmen died that our cause might triumph and that our country might retain her ancient liberty.

"Nor must we forget that the men of the Royal Air Force are still being called upon to sacrifice their lives in the prosecution of the war in the Far

East. In addition to bringing the enemy [here to nought, they aim at setting free large numbers of our fellow countrymen who are prisoners in Japanese hands.

" These valiant men have set us an example of sacrifice when we come to respond to the appeal which has for its object the succouring of those who were dependent on them. It is for us to see that those who were near and dear to them will not suffer material

want,

" We therefore commend this appeal most strongly to the generosity of our people. +Bernard, Archbishsop of Westminster."
